Open PhD and postdoc position

The Centre for Theoretical and Computational Chemistry has 3 vacant positions for PhD candidates and 1 postdoc positions. 

All positions will be announced, and an electronic application has to be submitted, through the jobbnorge.no website.

 

One PhD candidate is expected to work on (1) development of a time-domain response package based on the equation of motion (EOM) for the reduced single-electron density matrix and Ehrenfest theorem for the motion of the nuclei, and/or (2) applications of the developed time-domain package in computational chemistry at different theoretical levels, and of particular interest is (but the project is not limited to) time-resolved nonlinear spectroscopies, phenomena at surfaces and interfaces, and molecular electronics. The project is part of an ERC Starting Grant project entitled “Theoretical multiphoton spectroscopy for understanding surfaces and interfaces”. The second PhD candidate  will be involved in the development and application of quantum-chemical methods for the calculation of energies, structures and properties of molecules in the solid state or, more generally, for systems under period boundary conditions. The third PhD candidate will be involved in the development and implementation of new functionality within the solvation module, interfacing the module with external quantum chemistry codes and finally applying the code to relevant chemical problems, in particular in the area of the modeling molecular spectroscopic properties of solvated systems. The full announcement text and instructions for how to apply can be found at the web pages of jobbnorge.no. The application deadline is October 18 2012.

 

The postdoc  is expected to work on the development of multiscale quantum-mechanical methods for the study of multiphoton spectroscopies at surfaces and interfaces. Particular attention will be given to methods based on density functional theory in combination with polarizable embedding, and/or more approximate models based on continuum models. Multiphoton spectroscopic properties of interest will involve electromagnetic perturbations both in the visible and infrared spectroscopic regions, and the goal is the development and application of analytic computational methods as well as the development of realistic, yet computationally tractable, models for complex surfaces and interfaces and molecules interacting with these interfaces.
